Hayley put out the request for some guest posts and I was compelled to answer.
But, what to write about? What could I possibly say that held the same power and emotion of her recent guest post for me? She tackled a touchy subject and really had to dig deep to put the post together. My post for her needed to at least attempt to be as meaningful…
I deleted about 400 words I had written here… which all amounted to a lot of random ramblings of my jestering mind. And, yes, the only reason I’m telling you that I deleted some content was so I could use the phrase “jestering mind.” I’m awesomely silly like that.
Anyway, I’ve given up hope of trying to compete with the guest post that Hayley did for me, and so I’m going to subject you all to another poem. Please, please, keep the grumbling to a minimum. There are babies sleeping.
…..
I couldn’t believe you had been treated so,
When I tracked you down and asked how’d you been,
I didn’t want to hear that vicious words had made you go,
That you’d hidden away to escape the abuses.
Thoughts, confusion, anger swirled to and fro,
Even knowing the might of words set down in pen,
I didn’t want to accept our fellow bloggers would stoop so low,
That they’d relish in raising welts and deep bruises.
Stand tall, I said, and I will stand with you,
We cannot let them win.
Return and be true,
Together, we will make the bullies take one on the chin.
And return you did, with a fury and a flurry of words,
To share your story, your experience, your tale,
You stood tall and with a clear voice made sure you were heard.
We gathered round and shared when and where could,
To spread the news far and wide, carried on the wings of birds,
That we will no longer sit idly by, no longer let the bullies freely sail,
But will unite as one, and see them for what they are: absurd,
And nothing we need to concern ourselves with, nothing good.
Stand tall, I said, and I will stand with you,
We cannot let them win.
Sharing your story was something you had to do,
Raising awareness within.
Now we are rallied and our voices must continue on,
Seeking out those who need to hear, who need to know,
They are not alone and hope is nowhere near gone,
Speak up, speak out, and help will coming rushing to your side.
In time, the more we speak out, the more voices join our gathered throng,
The caws of the bullies will fade into the background like those of a crow,
And eventually will be drowned out entirely by our voices raised in song,
As we celebrate a better world, a smoother adventure filled ride.
Stand tall, I said, and I will stand with you,
We cannot let them win.
Cast aside those colors blue,
And keep letting your beautiful voice carry above the din.
Welcome back, Hayley.
