Breaking Bad

20130413-164942.jpg

So many of my favourite TV shows had ended and I decided to find something new. From tweets, friends and colleagues I kept hearing about Breaking Bad. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I thought to myself too many people have mentioned this show. So shortly after I ordered series 1-3 as it was on sale and away I went.

When I first started series one I was like what the hell is this. A respectable teacher with a good family whose brother in law is a cop for the DEA. So why would this respectable law abiding citizen risk everything by cooking crystal meth in his spare time with a former student. It soon becomes apparent as to why Walt is doing this, it may not be honourable but his motives are from the heart. I won’t say why in case you decide to watch.

Although when I got to the end of series two and the beginning of series three I honestly wasn’t sure how it could go on any longer. What I will say is Breaking Bad is written excellently and you are never prepared for the twists it takes.
Having completed series three I have now hit a brick wall until I get my hands on series four. I am also told that series five will be the last, in a way I am sad but sometimes a good thing has to bow out when on fine form.

So for now I am completely hooked on series three of Grey’s Anatomy. The turbulent relationship between Dr McDreamy (Derek Shepherd) and Meredith Grey will have you on the edge of your seat. He’s the kind of guy most girls dream of. Is he perfect? Hell no he can also be an arse but that’s part of the fun.
I blogged about discovering Dr McDreamy when my bestie introduced me to series one quite a while ago incase you missed it Discovering McDreamy

So do you enjoy Breaking Bad and or Grey’s Anatomy?

OR

Do you have a series that I should see?

Anyway, until next time 😃

Revenge Is Back!!!

20130114-224958.jpg

Revenge is back and it’s as captivating as ever.
I was truly hooked on every single episode of the first series.
Each episode had me on the edge of my seat begging for more.
To be perfectly honest I’m not sure how I waited for series two, somehow I didn’t crack and watch online with the Americans who are ahead of us.

I saw a glimpse of the series two premier while I was in America.
When series one ended I wasn’t sure how it could continue but Emily Thorn/ Amanda Clarke wasn’t outed. Sometimes these sort of programmes go on for too long, but tonight us in the UK saw the second episode of series two and I am in awe.

OMG! Yep I just held my breath at the end of that episode. The unthinkable has already happened but I cannot wait to see what happens next.

I am always looking for new TV recommendations so feel free to let me know?
I recently started Breaking Bad I truly enjoyed series one.

TV: Superstar

Last night I was lucky enough to be a member of the studio audience for ‘Superstar.’
As Andrew Lloyd Webber’s search for Jesus continues.
The winner will join the star studded cast on an arena tour alongside Spice Girl and judge Melanie C and Chris Moyles.

Woah! What an intense and emotional show it was.

As always the wannabe’s opened the show with a group number which was their rendition of Coldplay’s Viva La Vida.

Next up was the results as to who would be in the sing-off, David and Tim were the unlucky ones.

David and Tim are both talented individuals and for them to be in the bottom two was ridiculous.

I think Andrew was right in choosing to judge who will leave at the end of the show rather than the beginning. The survival song is a nerve-wracking experience at the best of times. At least this way they both got to give it their best twice.
This made perfect sense and gave Andrew the chance to judge them as all round performers.
He’s mentioned on more than one occasion that Jesus needs to be an all rounder with perfect physical fitness.
Seeing them both perform again made the decision even harder.
David and Tim were neck in neck in my opinion, with both of them putting their heart and soul into their whole performance.
I swear being in the audience as opposed to at home makes the show even more intense and in some cases a little heartbreaking. You can truly see how much these guys want this opportunity.

As the competition goes on it becomes harder and harder to say goodbye to one of the Jesuses.

I also had the pleasure of seeing the Kaiser Chiefs perform ‘Ruby’. It was nice to see them, as they don’t do a lot of TV these days but it also makes ‘Superstar’ a bit like ‘The X Factor.’

Series Review: Discovering the fuss over Dr McDreamy? Grey’s Anatomy series one

Series Summary:

Grey’s Anatomy is a winner. Both a critical hit and fan favourite, series one burst onto the television landscape with gripping plot lines, a sensational soundtrack and hot stars, including Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey and Sandra Oh.
Now you can experience all the drama, romance and excitement of Grey’s Anatomy from the very beginning.

Meet Meredith Grey, a brilliant first-year surgical intern at Seattle Grace Hospital.
Together with her fellow residents-in-training, Meredith navigates her way through the daily traumas and social land mines of life inside the hospital and out in the real world.
Grey’s Anatomy is a smart and witty look at young people struggling to be doctors and doctors struggling to stay human.

Review:

Over three days I discovered Grey’s Anatomy in all it’s gory I mean glory.
OMG OMG OMG! What an intense series.
I’m often the person who gets into a TV series, or reads a book once everyone else is already over it.
Trust me I read Twilight after everyone else and I’m still to read the Hunger Games.

I don’t mind being behind especially with TV series and book trilogies as it usually means the continuing part is available as and when I need it.

I honestly didn’t expect to get so hooked on a series based in a Seattle hospital.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not a squeamish person, but I’ve never been fond of blood and gore. I’m not one of these people who thrive on it, it just doesn’t interest me.
Seeing a heart bypass operation early on in the series, made me glad I watched this after my mum’s operation otherwise I’d have been even more terrified if that’s even possible.
What I really enjoyed was the depth of the series. In each episode you’d be laughing one minute and crying the next.
They covered a number of serious real-life issues so well, and yes they added humour here and there.
The syphilis story was both funny and true to life.

The characters in this series are great, I love them.
I really, really disliked Alex to start with but as the series went on I did start to see him a lot differently. It then made you as a viewer see that his sarcasm and witty nature is all a huge front. He’s just as terrified as the rest of the interns deep down.
Well you have to mention Meredith and Derek. I instantly loved them, although it did take a few episodes until I was sucked into the Dr McDreamy fanclub.
What I will say is the relationship between this pair will have you on tender hooks.

When I’d finished this series I instantly wanted the second, I even looked for it in HMV but the store I went into only had it as a set.
Although I knew my life would only consist of Grey’s Anatomy.
I am eagerly awaiting the next instalment, I shall be giving my friend back series one so I can get started on series two.
For me series one ended too abruptly, but then that is also the sign of a good show.

Sexism In Football

When I first saw the advert for the documentary ‘Sexism In Football’ with Gabby Logan, I immediately had to tune in.
I’m a huge football fan and my love for football is because of my mum-not my dad.

Over the years as a football fan, I’ve heard all the jibes.
Whose got the best legs, I bet you don’t know the offside rule, Do you support that team to impress a guy?

Yes, every woman is probably attracted to at least one footballer but is that why we enjoy the beautiful game?

In my opinion no it’s not, I love the thrill, the passion and the anticipation of a football match.
Ask anyone that knows me, when my beloved Tottenham Hotspur play bad I am an actual nightmare.
I can get just as moody as any guy over a bad game.

I don’t know why I’m so shocked after last years incident between Andy Gray and Richard Key’s.
In listening to some of these football writers, commentators, chair-women, club board members I am well and truly gob smacked by the way they’ve been treated.

Why should a woman be locked out of a press conference?
Or refused entry to the tunnel or the dressing rooms.
Why should a woman in football have her job compromised due to sexism?

I can’t believe some clubs have had a bodyguard on the door keeping women out of certain areas it’s absurd.

It’s interesting that the FA are trying to banish Racism and Homophobia from the beautiful game.
Yet, there is still this dark-side where sexism exists, why are they not trying harder to change this?

In listening to Jacqui Oatley speak about the awful backlash she got when she first became a commentator for Match Of The Day.
I cannot believe the press couldn’t just say well done to her.
Instead of just congratulating Jacqui they came up with the ludicrous suggestion that she hadn’t done it live.

Karren Brady was the first well known female in football.
At the end of her first ever press conference at Birmingham City she asked if there were any questions.
A journalist asked her “What are your vital statistics?”
Why was that relevant, it has nothing to do with her job.

Some of the other abuse women have suffered within the game I love is horrendous.
The funny thing is, I would still love to work alongside these women.

Maybe one day we’ll all be equals.
That thought is what I’ll strive towards each and every day.

I also penned a piece on ‘Sexism In Football’ for Total Football Magazine online
