DVD Review: Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked

Summary:

Chipmunks ahoy! It’s a tidal wave of toe-tapping music and unfurgettable fun for the whole family as Alvin and the Chipmunks return in their greatest adventure yet! While on vacation aboard a luxury cruise liner, Alvin, Simon, Theodore and the Chipettes can’t help rocking the boat with their unique brand of ‘munk mischief.
But things get really squeaky when the gang winds up stranded on a remote island- and they soon discover their new tropical playground is not as deserted as it seems.

Review:

Well I had a rare day at home and I was looking to watch a DVD that I hadn’t seen.
My sister mentioned that my brothers girlfriend Kate had got ‘Chipwrecked’.
Yep, I am a 28 year-old child and I really don’t care who knows it.
You’re talking to the girl who got a whole host of Disney DVDs for Christmas.
So I ran upstairs to find it- that was my evening sorted.

I wanted to see ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked’ in the cinema.
I’d loved the first two films- ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’ and ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel’.
Plus I used to watch the TV shows as a kid and I’ve always loved it.
Sadly, I didn’t see it at the cinema so I’ve had to wait until it was released on DVD.

As ever you expect Alvin to get into all sorts of trouble and he does in classic Alvin style.
When I saw there was going to be a third film in ‘Chipwrecked’ I was chuffed but part of me was thinking I hope they haven’t killed it off, that’s the only real worry when they make additional films.

I’m glad to say the Chipmunks adventure was as funny as ever.
Yes, there will always be similarities like Alvin chatting up girls, but that’s to be expected.

What really made me laugh was the change in Simon.
It was so out of character yet it was hilariously funny.
Simon was bitten and he encountered a side effect.
He started speaking French under the name Simone, he was a lot more outgoing and carefree- it was so funny.
Simon acting out made Alvin realise that he can be a royal pain.
It was definitely one of the highlights for me, especially as he couldn’t remember a single thing when he came back around.

Ever since they’ve added the ‘Chipettes’ to the films they’ve definitely enhanced the fun and they’ve kept the boys on their toes- which is always funny to watch.

I have loved the choices of songs in all of the films.
What made me laugh in this one was when they played P!nk’s ‘Trouble’, when Alvin was causing just that it was fitting and unexpected.
The other classic songs included are ‘Survivor’ and if you’ve seen the trailer you would have seen ‘Bad Romance’.

If you love unleashing the inner child in you, or have children then I would definitely recommend this feel good fun film.

The bonus disc is jam-packed with extras.
There’s lots of featurettes- which include the producers explaining about the original shows and how they’ve recreated them into the films of today.
It’s funny I completely forgot that the ‘Chipettes’ were actually in the original shows.
I also didn’t realise that Jesse McCartney is the voice of ‘Theodore’.

Is it wrong that I now want to find the original shows and start re-watching them?
