Stuart Pearce’s 18 man squad was announced today.
As I commented on David Beckham being snubbed from the team, I thought it would make sense for me to follow up with the final team.
The squad consists of 13 Englishman and 5 Welshman.
The team are as follows:
Jack Butland (Birmingham), Jason Steele (Middlesborough)
Ryan Bertrand (Chelsea), Steven Caulker (Tottenham Hotspur), Craig Dawson (West Brom), Micah Richards (Manchester City), Neil Taylor (Swansea), James Tomkins (West Ham)
Joe Allen (Swansea), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Jack Cork (Southampton), Ryan Giggs (Manchester United), Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Scott Sinclair (Swansea)
Craig Bellamy (Liverpool), Marvin Sordell (Bolton Wanderers) and Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea).
Gareth Bale would have been chosen but the Welsh international has been ruled out due to injury.
Stuart Pearce on choosing his final 18 men: “It has not been an easy task to finalise my squad for this tournament.”
“I spoke to David Beckham on Thursday about his non-inclusion. I know he had a burning passion to be in the squad as everyone else has.”
He added, “It was a decision. Beckham was disappointed about like every player on the 35-man list who didn’t make the 18.”
So the rumours surrounding the three players over 30 were correct.
It’s saddened me that Gareth Bale is unable to be a part of the unique Team GB.
It’s nice to see that a number of youngsters made the team.
As they are the stars of the future.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the final 18?
